Guercino, 1591-1666. Masterpieces from Cento to Rome

 

 Palazzo Barberini, Rome, until 29th April 2012.    The major exhibition dedicated to Francesco Barbieri, known as Guercino, one of the most important protagonists in 17th century Italy, inaugurates the new exhibition space of Palazzo Barberini. Guercino was born in Cento in 1591 and lived in Rome between 1621 and 1623. The curators’ choice to create the exhibition with works held in public and private collections from Rome and Cento, allows one to admire an extraordinary body of paintings in the renovated setting of Palazzo Barberini, with the opportunity to gain an overview of the master from Emilia: 50 masterpieces covering the entire span of his long artistic career which showcases all of his exuberant talent.
