La Cisterna restaurant in Rome
La Cisterna restaurant in Rome is one of the oldest in Italy and over the years it has been frequented by numerous famous people including Walt Disney who was inspired by the establishments “little secret”.
It is a part of the ritual when eating out at La Cisterna that you take a visit to the lower floor and view the level that many years ago was the ground floor. Whilst taking in this remarkable fact you can enjoy a glass of bubbly and maybe you will recognize something which you have seen somewhere before.
Walt Disney used to enjoy dining at La Cisterna and he also visited the lower floor and listened to the explanation about how this area was once at street level and the well which you see in the room was used for the drinking water in full view of the ancient roman citizens.
It is here as much as in the remains of the forum that you grasp the phenomenen that Rome is. You realize that there are layers and layers of time and history, not just monuments but places like La Cisterna where Romans used to dine out in exactly the same place as you can eat today.
Maybe it was this and the stories of the secret passages said to lead from these lower levels of the restaurant which inspired Disney to use the image of the well from la Cisterna in one of his best loved cartoon films.
Eating out at La Cisterna is an experience and the food is pretty good too. You can find out more on www.lacisterna.com
Why not book a holiday in Lazio area so you can easily visit Rome and try La Cisterna for yourself, or take a holiday villa in Italy elsewhere in order to enjoy one of the numerous interesting Italian restaurants on offer.
