Islands Information

Two of Italy's regions are actually large islands, Sicily and Sardinia. Italy also has some smaller popular islands such as Capri and Elba that are worth a visit.
The vast coastline of Sicily provides many magnificent beaches. Its varied interior is characterized by remote hill towns and plains surrounded by mountain ranges known for its spring flowers and beautiful wildlife. Among the most spectacular sights is Mount Etna, an active volcano whose lava over the centuries has left the land immensely fertile. And of course there is Sardinia characterized by an interior of rolling uplands covered in grasslands, wild thyme and prickly pears – a true island of class and beauty.
Today Capri remains a much desired and dreamt of destination, visited by tourists from all over the world. The island thrives in hills, cliffs, olive groves, vineyards, and garden terraces overlooking the blue water of the Mediterranean. Naples and Vesuvius loom in the distance, with white ferries and hydrofoils crossing the bay. Gravel paths offer countless opportunities to explore the island on foot, while churches, historic villas, and a ruin or two offer sightseeing opportunities for the ambitious tourist.
Elba is the largest island in the Tuscan area and having a surface area of 224 sq. km. It is the third Italian island in size. Elba is like a treasure chest rich in delightful surprises, framed by crystal-clear waters, which caress the sandy beaches. Inland environments range from shady woods, to sweet cultivated fields, to barren lands where aloe and cactus reign.
Simply enjoy the fresh, clear air and the beauty of these four magnificent islands.
