Getting to Italy

From the UK you will almost always find it cheaper to use a budget airline when flying to Italy. The firms, which have come up in recent years now offer good coverage of both the UK and Italy.  With many flights serving regional airports, more deals can be found via tour operators such as Thomson.

Italy has transport systems of varying efficiency, from the modern road, bus and rail networks of the north to the slower and more antique systems of the south.  Numerous airlines operate flights to several of the country’s major airports, while within Italy itself the national carrier Alitalia and several smaller companies provide an extensive network of internal flights.

Italy also has an efficient system of ferries connecting Sicily, Sardinia and many of the smaller offshore islands.  Italy’s large number of islands means that it has a large and well-developed network of ferries, as well as services to the rest of Europe and North Africa.
