Camping Holidays in Italy

Wake up in the morning to the spectacle of Mt Vesuvius looming across the Bay of Naples or gaze across the lagoon to Venice. For a true taste of Italian life al fresco. camping puts you at the heart of spell-binding scenery.
A camping holiday gives you the freedom to explore, easy access to all the top sights and with massive savings. Accommodation in the campeggios (campsites) is often like luxury villages with a choice of tents, cabins, bungalows or mobile homes with restaurants, bars and swimming pools. More than a cheap alternative to staying in a hotel, this is a holiday for independently-minded souls who prefer shop in the local markets and do their own cooking, feel at home in beautiful settings — and, for the romantically-inclined, to sleep under the stars.
The villas around Lake Garda and Lake Maggiore once belonged to royals, artists and writers who derived such inspiration from the Lakes and were the first tourists in Italy. Many of these villas have since been converted to campsites. On Lake Garda’s shores the southern low, rolling holidays contrast with the spectacular towering mountains of the north. While Lake Maggiore stretches up into the Swiss Alps and has the fairytale Borromean Islands at its heart.
For beautiful scenery, golden beaches and ancient cities that are jewel caskets of art, there are rich pickings in store. The Adriatic coast is the perfect embarkation point for Treviso and Venice and a sunset boat trip along the Grand Canal. In Tuscany the glorious sights of Florence, Siena, San Gimignano and Pisa are all accessible from sites set among the classic, rolling countryside or the Tuscan seaside.
Further south is the historic capital Rome and the city of Naples. Close to some of Italy's extraordinary archaeological remains such as Pompeii and Ercolano, Naples is within easy distance of Sorrento and the Almafi Coast. And, for lovers of untamed beauty, Puglia in the deep south has mile upon mile of golden sands and plenty of sites set among pine forests for that true back to nature experience.
For a taste of island life, Sicily, the largest island in the Mediterranean, has few peers for its blend of fascinating architecture, beaches and dramatic volcanos. And Sardinia is blessed with some of the world’s most beautiful coastline, sprinkled with blonde sands and edged with turquoise-blue seas. After all, why pay extra for a seaview room when you can wake up in a campsite right on the beach for a fraction of the cost.
